May I check out a laptop?

Yes! The library has Chromebooks available to check out. The devices are available at the service desk, and circulate for three days.

There is a $5/day fine for any Chromebooks returned late.

What happened to the Digital Media Center and the Green Screen?

Both the Digital Media Center and the Green Screen Room have been condensed into one central location, which now also houses our Microfilm Library. 

It is located inside the Reading Room on the main floor of Stanley Library. 

The Digital Media Center includes two stations, as well as the use of professional design and audio engineering programs.

You may use the Digital Media Center as a group or individually.

To ensure availability, the Digital Media Center stations require a reservation.

May community patrons check out books?

They may check out books for thirty days, and they may be renewed once, provided that another patron has not requested the book.

They may check out up to ten books at one time.

However, they are not allowed to check out additional books until any overdue books are returned.

What is the Digital Video Lab?

The Digital Video Lab or "Microfilm/Media Room" is part of Stanley Library's Digital Media Services program.

In the Digital Video Lab, we'll help you film videos in our Green Screen room and edit them using Adobe right here in the Library.

Who do I contact with questions or problems with interlibrary loan (ILL)?

The interlibrary loan office is located in Stanley Library and is open from 7:30 – 3:30, Monday – Friday. 

If you have any questions, or if you need assistance, please feel free to by stop by the library or call 540-365-4426.

Your ILL requests using the online forms can be submitted at any time.

Where do I pick up and return ILL materials?

Once your request arrive, it will be checked into KOHA, which will email you an alert to let you know that the ILL was checked out in your name. 

You will receive an email a week after the books arrival if you have not picked it up. 

Book s and physical materials will be held for you in Technical Services, on the main floor of the library and will need to be returned there as well.

Articles, book chapters, and electronic items will be delivered via email and do not need to be returned.

What equipment does the library have for patrons to check-out?

The Library also has scientific calculators, camcorders, Wii games/console, iPads, DVD players, and digital projectors that can be checked out. Overdue fines are $5/day on equipment.

Can I renew my books online?

Yes!

Go to: https://ferrum.bywatersolutions.com/cgi-bin/koha/opac-user.pl

You can either:

  1. Select the drop down box for local login.
    1. Enter your username and password you set up with library staff in KOHA.
  2. OR Login with your Ferrum ID, which will take you through the single sign-on process. 

Items checked out to you will be on your KOHA dashboard. 

Renew items. Note: some items cannot be renewed online.

What Digital Media services does Stanley Library offer?

  1. At Stanley Library, we offer services with 3D printing, filming with Green Screen technology, editing video projects using Adobe Create Suite tools, and creating audio projects in our Audio Lab. 
  2. There are two multimedia workstations with Adobe Creative Suite
    1. Digital Video Lab/Digital Audio Lab
    2. Green Screen Room kit camera, tripod, Softbox lights, and props
    3. And a Large Format Poster Printer!

What Archives or Special Collections are housed in Stanley Library?

There are several special collections within the Stanley Library such as: The Ferrum College Archives, the Inge Methodist Archive, the Governor Thomas Stanley Archive, the T. Keister Greer Archive, the T. Keister Greer Research Collection, the Marshall Wingfield Collection, and the Stillwell Collection. In addition to those collections, the Special Collections also houses Aerial Photo Land Use Surveys - spanning 1937-1971 and oversized maps of southwest Virginia, including reconnaissance, mineral resources, topographical, TVA, and older and antique road maps.

How do I access electronic resources from off campus?

All users must authenticate to subscription resources when connecting from off-campus. Currently, authentication is based on your Library credentials, but we hope you'll be able to log in with your portal credentials by the end of fall 2019. Can students use the LEaP without a class?

Yes! You can play board games in the LEaP, with or without a reservation. However, we ask that you be aware that should a class have time reserved, you will be asked to leave or move the game(s) to another part of the library to finish playing!
